Help a jumper out: Freedom Tower BASE jumpers

Written by Kolla

Nary a person in or around skydiving or BASE jumping has not yet heard of the NYC Freedom Tower BASE jumpers. James Brady, Marko Markovich and Andrew Rossig were charged with having climbed the nation’s tallest building on September 30, 2013 and jumped off, with Kyle Hartwell down below as ground crew.

Six months later they were arrested, charged with burglary (a felony carrying a penalty for up to 7 years in prison) along with reckless endangerment and unauthorized jumping from a structure (misdemeanors). On June 8 their trial began, culminating yesterday (Monday, June 22, 2015) with a Manhattan jury finding them not guilty of burglary, but convicted of reckless endangerment along with illegal BASE jumping.

  • I think that they made their bed, and therefore they should count their blessings and pay for their own decisions. Who is supposed to pay for my speeding ticket? I am!

  • Yep. They wanted to be famous, so they “leaked” the video they shot of themselves breaking the law. Zero sympathy for them. If you have spare money to throw around, don’t give it to these idiots – donate it to the USPA Legal Defense Fund (or whatever it’s called) that defends drop zones under attack from developers.
