Blue Skies

Dedicated readers might remember Eugenio “Keno” Dominguez from our August issue. His NSTIW story of a June 2009 freefall collision was harrowing, to say the least. Our friends from Airtec recently let us know that Keno is back in the air, and he agreed to let us share his e-mail to them. We’ll hopefully have a follow-up interview with Keno in the next issue of Blue Skies Mag, but first, check out the video of the jump…

Helmut and Rob:

Hope you remember me! , im Just writing you guys to say Hi, and tell that im in the last part of my healing. Everything is OK, just my eye is not closing perfectly, but is a very small detail.

Yesterday I came back to the air!!!!!!!!! Yes, was my first jump since my accident!!, I had a tandem first, and then fly with my friend, doing some good grips in belly.

Im completely happy !! im been waiting this since june 10th!!!

Thanks again for everything and for working every day to improve details to save more and more people.

During the surgery I had my nice suit all broken, so im desingning a new one, and Its completely important for me to have CYPRES written on it. I hope there´s no problem to do that.

I really never gonna forget my accident, and the answer of how i didn´t explode on the floor, is CYPRES.

Cypress is gonna live with me for ever.

OK, hoping you guys are doing Ok, having some nice jumps, Best Regards

Keno

GAVBR Update

Posted by Lara On 5 October 2009 9 COMMENTS

Here’s the latest on our first-ever Get-Alex-VB-Relay (GAVBR): we are looking for someone to bring the three cases of Victoria Bitter (VB) from San Francisco to Lodi by October 11. If that can happen, Alex has lined up someone who can bring those babies home from Lodi to Spaceland (and his tummy). (8 October)Brian has picked up the VB from Cellar360 and is handing off to the next relay person at Lodi this weekend! (15 October)The VB is on its way from Lodi to Skydive Spaceland—and Alex’s Aussie belly…

Cellar360, the one place in America to find VB

The one place in America to find VB, "The Best Cold Beer"

The slabs of VB haven’t left the city yet, but they’ve already had quite a journey! Here are some highlights:

  • Rob was willing to fit some in his airplane luggage, but we’re not sure three cases will fit.
  • A truck driver from Spaceland was going to be driving from Salinas back to Houston, and K-Dub was going to be driving from San Francisco to Salinas! Alas, they missed each other by one day.
  • Jen was at Chicks Rock in Elsinore and able to get it as far as Eloy, but no one could get it down to Elsinore.
  • Cellar360 is down with the plan! They are holding Alex’s VB in a secure location, waiting for pickup as we speak. Type. Whatever.
  • VB themselves, straight from Australia, are down with the plan, too! They tweeted out a call for help, so thanks to everyone who made it here from there. And they said you couldn’t get there from here.

You may have heard the sad news that PACK’D, the team we were following to Nationals, is unable to go now. So, Blue Skies Mag is holding the first Get Alex VB Relay (GAVBR); instead of following a team, we’ll now follow a case of beer.

Alex is an Australian jumper now working and living at Skydive Spaceland in Houston. His birthday is coming up. He is thirsty. Alas, the one place in the entire U.S. of A. where he can find his favorite Aussie beer is a wine shop called Cellar360. In California. 1,953 miles away.

We are sending out this plea to our fellow jumpers. We know there are angels out there willing, ready and able to answer the call and quench Alex’s Aussie thirst.

The first leg of the GAVBR will need to acquire the beer from Cellar360 at Ghirardelli Square in the Woolen Mill Building and get it started on its trek southeast. Maybe you are a San Franciscan (San Franciscite? San Frannie?) headed to Elsinore for the weekend. Maybe you are driving through on your way to Eloy. Wherever you are from and wherever you are going, we will look for another volunteer at your destination to take it further east – and on, until it reaches Rosharon, Texas by October 12.

Of course, if one person can bring the VB all the way from San Francisco to Nationals, that would be ideal.

Think of it as good beer karma. If you can participate in the GAVBR, please contact us at admin@blueskiesmag.com. And let the relay begin!

Who owes beer? This is the place for a public calling-out! Post them in the comments and we’ll hold beer-owers to their duties.

Yuengling is delicious. Cold and brown, it quenches thirst as no other malt beverage can. Yuengling, yum.

In “Welcome to:”, we’ll feature your videos introducing your home DZ.

Show us around like you would if we were coming to your drop zone for the first time. Where’s manifest? What’s the landing area like? Introduce us to your S&TA, your local skygods, the best packers, the worst packers, the girls we should meet (if we’re into girls), the guys we should stay away from (if we’re into guys). Where do people hang out once the beer light is on? What’s best to stock the beer fine fridge with? Where’s the campground, bonfire, bunkhouse or trailer hook-ups? Take us to your best dz party!

If you have a great “Welcome to:” video, post it on YouTube and send us the link. If we choose your video, we’ll post it here and the best one per month will be featured in the magazine.
