A reunion is one way to overcome, rise above and balance the BSBD vs. our Daily High lifestyle. Simply gathering the tribe outside of the usual jump day has the power to bring real unity and power to ourselves. And, of course create a party the size of Texas with your best friends spanning decades of highs, lows and everything in between in a place built for nothing less than EPIC. VEGAS BABY!
Ok, so maybe you’ve heard about it. Maybe you saw it in the print edition of Blue Skies. The Vegas Convention, happened in May of this year. And it’s taken me a while to really process what happened.
The event was meant for one of the waves of skydiving and BASE jumping that span maybe 20 years. The camaraderie, lifestyle and passion for our relationships with each other is a direct reflection of our entire Sky-BASE community. In light of the significant losses this year I couldn’t have imagined a better time for all of us. Light the fire!
Enter Jimmy & Marta Pouchinotti. The BASE dynamic duo with a vision and a network to make something like this happen. After all the recent losses, the hype and questioning of it all, it was their idea to actually do something, engage in a deep and meaningful way. Unify the tribe, so to speak. Engage with the process of life, the community and perhaps even impact our culture by concentrating on our relationships. You know, the peeps, the lifestyle, the celebration of the lives we are living, right now.
It’s just a big party you say? I beg to differ. It’s the lifestyle and the bonds we make as skydivers that is the celebration of life, the freedom of writing our own tickets, cutting away and calling the shots. It’s an idea that took flame and enlarged to booking a major portion of a hotel and a complete club for the night, it’s like the convention, but totally different. (I know, that’s dating myself.) Dare I say the largest Sky-BASE party reunion off DZ in the history of our culture? If that’s so, this holds the potential for a shift in our Sky-BASE communities. Spending a little time deepening our relationships holds a lot of power. It’s a big reason we all got into this crazy lifestyle in the first place.
If you’ve only been in the sport a few years you might have tasted all this, if not, you most likely will. As a culture, skydiving is freedom on so many levels. And some of the biggest magic, isn’t under canopy or in freefall, it’s in the peeps you meet and know for a lifetime.
Balance the Blue Skies Black Death with honing your art of being. Being grateful, being willing to risk it all, being committed to deepening all your relationships and being conscious.
