Back in the day, the word BirdMan was pretty synonymous with wingsuit. They were not the only game in town, but they were certainly the biggest, the most active and the most flamboyant.
Dropzones regarded wingsuiting with a mix of awe and disgust. Putting wingsuiters out was a bit of a pain in the ass as the sport adjusted. There was a bit of a learning curve as wingsuiters continued to push the envelope. Heated debates raged about spots, aircraft safety, exit order, color choices and what exactly constituted a suitable canopy for wingsuiting. As time went by, more wingsuit manufacturers stepped onto the scene, and more and more skydivers took up wingsuiting. The disharmony escalated and the ‘wingsuit wars’ of years past can only be compared to another event that took place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Somehow, as things are want to do, everything has kind of sorted itself out.
