World Meet in Russia

Much is happening in little Russia as many of the worlds best skydivers have arrived at a dropzone in Menzelinsk, ready to represent the respective nations. This dropzone will be hosting events in Formation Skydiving, Canopy Formation and Artistic events over the next 7 days.
Competition begins on Sunday and it will be exciting to see all the new champions. Blue Skies Magazine predicts the battle in 4-way will be fiercer than in years past! If you desire to follow the action step by step, you can keep up to speed on the OmniSkore website and their Facebook page, where Jan Meyer will be posting updates and photos.
Say Something!
The latest issue of Blue Skies Mag is hitting mailboxes now, yippee! You might have read in the FlyBy that you can now be a contributor to blueskiesmag.com. We have this all configured, but we’re also planning a little site makeover that will shuffle a few things around. We didn’t want to show people how to post, only to change the game a few days later, so we’re holding off on enabling you to post your thoughts until the redesign.
It shouldn’t be many more days until we’re ready to unveil everything, so just hold tight and check back with us. Right now, our goal is Monday, July 26 and we’re pretty well on track. If you’ve ever done website work though, you know the devil is in the details, so hopefully he stays away!
In the meantime, think of what you want to say and get ready to be heard
Dreams That Soar
Gen Montreuil, a Canadian artist and skydiver, has a Kickstarter project to take her on a head-down painting journey. Not both at the same time, but she does incorporate striking head-down images into her work. Check it out:
Jumping Celebrities
Two famous men went on tandem skydives yesterday. One did it for his 88th birthday, and to raise awareness of ending childhood hunger. The other did it probably for the same reason most of us did – to have something to tweet about.
Former U.S. Senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern jumped at Skydive Space Center in Titusville, FL. Full story at Florida Today.
And then this guy jumped in Australia …
Which one are you more excited to call a fellow skydiver now?

Local jumpers Jen and Lauren posed for the talented Mr. Carmody one very hot Florida day (you should have seen the sweat). Yes, they’re real, live, current jumpers. Yes, that’s all their own gear. Yes, we will have more photos online, plus a lovely centerfold in the June/July issue of Blue Skies Mag.

The Solar Impulse completed its first full flight, including a portion at night.
Anyone have bets on when we’ll be jumping out of solar-powered planes?
